Committee & Division Preference Form

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the United Way of Laredo, please fill out and complete a volunteer application form.  Below you will find a list of the committees that are available to board members and/or volunteers.

COMMITTEE DIVISION PREFERENCE FORM

STANDING COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

ADMISSIONS & ALLOCATIONS
This committee shall be responsible for developing and evaluating standards for admission of affiliates to United Way. It will also recommend agency admission and respective allocation of resources. The committee will work closely with the Campaign and Budget & Audit Committees.

BUDGET & AUDIT
This committee will recommend the annual budget to the Board of Directors taking into consideration recommendations from the Admissions & Allocations Committee, Campaign Committee and Executive Committee. This committee will also request, receive and review bids, and select a certified public accounting firm to prepare the annual audit and oversee the audit.

CAMPAIGN
This committee is responsible for organizing and conducting the annual solicitation of funds for the support of the United Way and its funded affiliates. (See Campaign Division Descriptions)

HUMAN RESOURCE AND MANAGEMENT
This committee will be responsible for recommending ideas or plans to develop the United Way’s human resources to meet the challenges of the future. The Human Resource and Management Committee will also be responsible for reviewing the Human Resources Policies Handbook and recommending additions, changes or deletions.

MARKETING
This committee shall be responsible for the dissemination of all information concerning the United Way and matters incident thereto (i.e. brochure, press releases on up-coming events or activities).

NOMINATING
The nominating committee is responsible for making nominations for the election of directors at the annual membership meeting. This committee will also make nominations for officers to the Board of Directors.

STRATEGIC PLANNING, PROGRAMMING AND RESEARCH
The Strategic Planning, Programming and Research Committee is responsible for conducting research on the community’s and the different donor group’s perception of the United Way and for setting a plan of action to increase their support and participation. This committee will also conduct biannual community needs surveys.

AD HOC COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

AGENCIES
The responsibilities of the United Way Agencies Committee will be to meet monthly to establish and maintain the lines of communications with the agencies to receive feed back on policies affecting them, etc.

AWARDS CEREMONY
The Awards Ceremony Committee will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of this event including but not limited to: place, funding, food, drinks, program, slide show, seating arrangements, etc.

COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANTS (Formerly CIV Fund Grants)
This committee is responsible for distributing grants consisting of all funds placed in the CIV fund. This fund consists of monies donated over the campaign goal. There are two forms of grant–New Venture and Special Projects. New ventures should have programs designed for new approaches to areas of giving. Special projects monies can be used for building improvements, as well as for the acquisition of materials and equipment, training of personnel and direct service to clients.

COUNCIL OF PAST PRESIDENTS
The Council of Past Presidents will be responsible for keeping all past presidents active in an advisory capacity at all levels of United Way.

EMERGENCY FUND
The Emergency Fund Committee will be responsible for considering all requests and will recommend agencies to receive emergency funds to the Executive Committee.

KICK-OFF EVENT
The Kick-Off Event Committee will be responsible for coordinating aspects of this event including but not limited to: funding, celebrity, place, food, program, decorations, etc.

SPEAKERS BUREAU
The Speakers Bureau Committee will be responsible for recruiting, training and scheduling speakers to give presentations to civic and employee groups.

SPECIAL EVENTS
The Special Events Committee will be responsible for coordinating the different fund raising events that occur during the United Way Campaign. This includes any United Way contributor wishing to conduct a fundraiser.

CAMPAIGN DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS

COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN
This division will organize the fund raising campaign for all federal employees, both civilian and military. The guidelines and regulations for this campaign are set up in the Federal Register issued by the Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C. National, international and local health and human service organizations apply for inclusion in the CFC. (Volunteering for this committee automatically includes you in the CFC Speakers Bureau.)

COMMERCIAL DIVISION
This division includes contributions from businesses and their employees associated with any for-profit organization in the local economy that has less than fifty (50) but more than (10) employees. Businesses included in this division are either sole-proprietors, partnerships or corporations associated with international trade, commerce, travel, leisure, tourism, the electric or printed media, as well as merchants, retailers or wholesalers of goods and services.

CORPORATE DIVISION
This division includes contributions from businesses and their employees associated with any for-profit organization in the local economy that has over fifty (50) employees. Businesses included in this division are either sole-proprietors, partnerships or corporations associated with international trade, commerce, travel, leisure, tourism, the electric or printed media, as well as merchants, retailers or wholesalers of goods and services.

EDUCATION DIVISION
This division includes contributions from all employees in private and public institutions of learning whether they be academic or vocational in nature.

ENERGY DIVISION
The energy accounts consist of contributors from businesses and their employees associated with oil and gas, mining, chemicals, repairs and similar groups of the oil and gas sector.

FINANCIAL DIVISION
This division includes contributions from insurance providers, realtors and financial institutions and their employees including the local banks, savings and loans, credit unions, stock brokers and any other financing groups of our community.

GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE DIVISION
This division includes contributions from employees, whether civilian or military, of any government entity or agency associated with local city, county or state service. Contributors from non-profit groups such as civic, social, professional, religious, recreational and the arts are also included in this division.

INDUSTRIAL DIVISION
The industrial accounts include contributions from businesses and their employees associated with manufacturing or assembly plants, utilities, metals, materials and supplies, heavy equipment and machinery, industrial constructions and repairs and similar groups of the industrial sector.

LEGAL DIVISION
This division includes contributions from all law offices, attorneys and their employees.

MEDICAL DIVISION
This division includes contributions from all physicians, dentists, veterinarians and their employees.

NEW ACCOUNTS DIVISION
This division includes all new businesses in the local economy or accounts that have not given in the past selected from the Direct Mail Division

PROFESSIONAL DIVISION
This division includes contributions from all accounting, engineering, optometrists, pharmaceutical and architectural offices/stores and their employees.

SPECIAL GIFTS/ DIRECT MAIL DIVISION
The special gift accounts include contributions from special individuals, retirees, foundations and trusts. The direct mail accounts include contributions from businesses and their employees associated with any for-profit organization in the local economy that has ten (10) employees or less. Businesses included in this division are either sole-proprietors, partnerships or corporations associated with international trade, commerce, travel, leisure, tourism, the electric or printed media, as well as merchants, retailers or wholesalers of goods and services.

STATE EMPLOYEE CHARITABLE CAMPAIGN
This division will organize the fund raising campaign for all state employees. The guidelines and regulations for this campaign are set up by the State. National and local human and health care service organizations apply for inclusion in the SECC. (Volunteering for this committee automatically includes you in the State Speakers Bureau.)

TRANSPORTATION DIVISION
This division includes contributions from all forwarding agents, customhouse brokers, trucking and transportation companies.

ZAPATA COUNTY DIVISION
This division will be responsible for organizing all contributions whether they be corporate, employee, individual or fund-raising activities for Zapata County.
